We can be certain that investment markets will recover. What we can not be certain about is when they will recover. But one thing is clear, any recovery will happen much faster than people are expecting.

All of the recoveries of the past, with the exception of 2003, were in a pre-internet world. This meant that information moved around the world more slowly. It meant that people did not have instant knowledge of what was happening, not just next door, but around the world. The world is now a very different place. This does not mean that investments will not grow again. The nature of people is that they find solutions to problems, sell them, make money and reward investors. But what is different now is that knowledge of what's happening around the world happens a thousand times faster. This means that the recovery in investment markets, be they equities, property or metals, will happen very quickly. Too quickly, in fact, for people to join the train once it has left the station. The falls in the market happened far quicker than we, or indeed anyone, had expected, and so will the recovery. Just be sure you are on the train when it leaves.
